Rick is a self-taught artist who works mainly in oils. His images are clearly influenced by the special light, landscapes, and wildlife found between the prairies and the mountains. Long known for his skilled portrayal of wildlife, Rick's more recent work shows an increasing sensitivity to light and colour often expressed in images of urban houses, gardens, city parks, golf courses and rural landscapes.
Rick's work has been included in traveling Government exhibits, as well as individual and group shows across North America. Rick is a frequent contributor to auctions, and stamp and poster projects in support of such organizations as Trout Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Federation of Fly Fishermen and the Bull Trout Task Force. Additionally, his paintings can be found on the cover designs of many sport equipment catalogues including Alberta Hunting and Fishing and Rural Montana.
Rick's 25 year struggle to develop himself as a painter has made him very sensitive to the needs of students and aspiring artists. As such, Rick dedicates a part of each year to sharing his knowledge and experience with others. He often hosts painting workshops and classes at various locations throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Rick is originally from Red Deer, Alberta and now resides in Crossfield, Alberta.
